Gilsun, a Tanzanian startup founded by bio-processing engineer Suzana Munuo, has been recognized for its innovative approach to clean energy at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Global Call 2023.
It emerged as the second prize winner in the Clean Energy Innovation category, showcasing its cutting-edge biogas systems designed for domestic, industrial, and agricultural applications.

The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the sixth China International Import Expo Award Ceremony, highlighting the global impact of Gilsun’s innovations.
Gilsun joins a distinguished group of category winners: GreenBox, a German startup pioneering hydrogen-based electric mobility solutions. And GIVO, a Nigerian venture developing waste management software, waste centers, and waste value chain educational programs.
Over the past three years, the UNIDO Global Call has attracted more than 2,000 participants from 108 countries to contribute innovative technological solutions and best practices. Gilsun’s victory in this prestigious competition highlights Tanzania’s potential to contribute to the global sustainability movement.
